Honnavar, Jul 20: Thieves looted cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 47 lac from KDCC Bank, Karki branch in Honnavar on Thursday July 19.
The thieves decamped with 508 grams of gold and Rs 1.95 in cash, said Chandrashekar, the branch manager.
Sources said that the thieves broke the bars of the inner door with electronic cutters. They also broke the siren placed next to the front door of the bank.
SP Narayan said that preliminary investigations clearly pointed out that the persons familiar or associated with the bank were behind the theft, along with professional thieves. Investigations were carried out with the help of sniffer dogs, but no clue was found.
Few years back, a similar kind of theft had taken place in the taluk where thieves had stolen 5 kg of gold. But police have still not traced the culprits.
A case has been registered in Honnavar police station.
