Kundapur: Lokayukta Raids Sub-registrar's Office, Recovers Excess Cash

Kundapur, Jul 18: The Udupi Lokayukta on Wednesday July 18 raided the office of the sub-registrar here and seized unaccountable cash from three employees.
The team raided the office at around 5.45 pm, and continued the operation till night.
The team recovered Rs 20,615 in cash, out of which Rs 17,900 was found with sub-registrar Kavita, Rs 1,645 with Anand and Rs 1,070 with Vanajakshi.
The police also took custody of Anand and registered cases against Kavita and Vanajakshi.
Speaking to the mediapersons, Lokayukta SP Jagamayyanawar said that the raid was conducted in the wake of several complaints from the public that there were irrugularities in the functioning of the sub-registrar's office.
"The sub-registrar's office is not functioning properly. Day-to-day accounts of the fees collected for various registrations and transactions should be maintained. However, it was not the case here. A thorough investigation will be conducted in this regard," he said.
Lokayukta DySP Sadanand Y Varnekar, sub-inspectors Timmayya and B P Dineshkumar, police personnel Riyaz Ahmed, Sridhar G, Nagesh Udupa, Divakar Kumar, Ramachandra, Shivaraj Billava, Shobha and others were involved in the operation.
