China Railway Passenger Traffic Up

Beijing, Jul 18 (IANS): Six million people travelled daily by trains since July 1 in China, the railways ministry said Tuesday.

A daily average of 6.04 million passengers travelled by rail in the first 15 days of July, Xinhua quoted the ministry as saying.

The largest number travelled on July 7, when 6.5 million passengers took trains.

Most of the passengers were students heading for their hometowns for summer vacation, and people taking breaks from work to visit friends and relatives.

Authorities have launched additional trains to cope with the travel rush.
