Guerrilla Killed in Kashmir Gunfight


Srinagar, Jul 6 (IANS): One separatist guerrilla was killed and an army trooper and a police officer were wounded in a gunfight in north Kashmir's Kupwara district Friday morning, police said.

On specific information about the presence of guerrillas, army troops and police jointly surrounded a forest area in Bawan village near Zachaldara in Kupwara district early Friday, said a senior police officer.

"As the troops were busy searching the area, hiding militants opened fire wounding an army trooper and a police officer. They were taken to hospital for treatment," he said.

"One guerrilla was killed in the ensuing gunfight. Searches are still on in the forest area," he added.
