Islamabad, Jul 5 (IANS): Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has directed the railway authorities to ensure smooth and punctual operation of long distance trains.
The long distance trains run between Karachi-Peshawar, Rawalpindi-Karachi, Lahore-Karachi and Rawalpindi-Quetta.
Ashraf gave the instructions while chairing a meeting Wednesday, which was attended by Minister for Railways Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Minister for Finance Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and senior officials, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.
"Pakistan Railways and its rehabilitation is one of my top priorities," the prime minister said.
The railways are in a poor state in Pakistan.
So much so that last month Dawn daily said in an editorial that "with the department facing an acute shortage of locomotives to keep its trains running, it needs to move on the fast track to acquire the new engines".
