Goa Cop Accused of Assault in Police Station

Panaji, Jun 28 (IBNS): A police sub inspector is accused of assaulting a detainee in the police station, and the matter was reported to the police higher ups this evening.

PSI Dattaguru Sawant attached to the Valpoi police station has been accused of assaulting local resident Vincent Fernandes.

Sources informed that on June 26 at about 7:45pm, Fernandes was at the police station trying to amicably settle an accident involving a Maruti van and a motorcycle.

PSI Sawant allegedly abused and physically assaulted Fernandes in the police station, and later arrested him under Section 151 of CrPC claiming that it was a preventive arrest.

The victim was thereafter rushed to a nearby hospital due to high blood pressure. He was next morning produced before the Deputy Collector and released on bail.

The family members have petitioned Director General of Police Kishan Kumar seeking action against the PSI for his high handedness.
