Bantwal, Jun 26: July 15 has been set as a deadline to vacate the shops to enable the work on widening of roads at Vittal. The tender process will begin by the end of July if everything goes well and the road widening work in the town will begin by the first week of August.
These were the decisions taken during the meeting of shopkeepers and government officials which was held in the presence of Puttur MLA Mallika Prasad and Dakshina Kannada DC Chennappa Gowda at the circuit house, Vittal, on Monday June 25.
Addressing the gathering, Gowda urged the shopkeepers to voluntarily vacate their shops by the deadline as the points are being marked by officers at the intersection of four roads to lay a 50 feet wide round-about.
MLA Mallika Prasad urged the shopkeepers to voluntarily vacate their shops without heeding propaganda as the time has come to solve the issue as all these years the issue of road widening has been limited to meetings without any concrete measures. “Nonetheless, the funds that are earmarked for these works are likely to go elsewhere,” he added.
ZP chief executive engineer Gopal Nayak, Vittal probationary ASP Dr Divya V Gopinath, and Cittal Mescom assistant executive engineer Yashwant were present on the occasion.
Vittal town panchayat president Ramanath Vittal welcomed the gathering. Tahsildar Anand Nayak proposed the vote of thanks.
