Goa Issues Fire Safety Advisory

Panaji, June 22 (IBNS): In the aftermath of a massive fire at Mumbai Mantralaya that killed three poeple, the Goa government on Friday issued an advisory asking the Fire & Emergency Services Department to conduct fire safety inspections of all government buildings including the Legislative Assembly complex.

Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava issued fire safety advisory Friday early morning on instructions by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

“Our fire fighting teams have begun checking the buildings to ensure fire safety,” said Ashok Menon, Director, Fire and Emergency Services.

He said the fire officials will concentrate more on buildings like Legislative Assembly complex, Ministerial Block and the Old Secretariat as several thousand people visit these complexes daily.

The monsoon session of the state legislative assembly is slated to begin from July 12 onwards.

“We are drawing plans to conduct mock drills and to educate the ministers, MLAs, bureaucrats and people in general on fire safety,” Menon said.
