Panaji, Jun 22: Goa government has put on fast-track filling of the government vacancies which are reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) in various departments.

State Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar stated that there are 1670 vacancies which have been piled up over last few years. “There was a fear that government might dereserve these vacancies which would be injustice on the ST community,” he said.

Tawadkar recently held meeting with the senior bureaucrats asking various government departments to give the details of backlog of the ST vacancies pending with them.

“The deadline of three months has been set up, within that period all the vacancies should be filled,” the minister said.

United Tribal Alliance Association (UTAA), an umbrella organization of the tribal associations, had demanded immediate filling of these vacancies which would solved the grave issue of unemployment in them.

Erstwhile Digambar Kamat government had initiated a special drive to fill these posts reserved for ST, but could employ only 35 people, Tawadkar added.
