Panaji, June 19 (IBNS) Incessant rains in the state in the last couple of days have brought fears of viral and bacterial diseases with the Directorate of Health Services likely to issue advisory regarding the monsoon-borne ailments and methods to prevent their occurrence.
 
“Our field officials have begun the inspection of the high risk areas for the presence of dengue and malaria carrier mosquitoes. Residents, hospitality sectors and others are advised to empty open containers and old tires,” a senior Health official told IBNS.
 
Water logging, open drainage in the interior parts and exposed garbage are attributed to the ailments. Doctors have already begun attending to an increasing number of monsoon related diseases including food poisoning. 
 
Dr Ramchandra, running his private clinic in the city has advised extra caution on food and hygiene.
 
Dr Piush Naik has further advised not to get drenched in the rain to avoid risk of respiratory diseases.
 
A health officer said that municipality workers are asked to clean the surfaces contaminated by human or animal faeces.
 
Goa received a seasonal total of 30 inches of rain in the last three days with Monday (June 18) marking the wettest day.
 
India Metrological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
