Prez Polls: Pranab Meets Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi, Jun 14 (IANS): Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Thursday met Congress president Sonia Gandhi to discuss the presidential elections, officials said.

Mukherjee reached Gandhi's 10, Janpath residence a little after 10 a.m.

The meeting comes after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav virtually rejected Gandhi's presidential choices Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari.

Banerjee and Mulayam Singh instead listed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee as their presidential candidate.

Defence minister A.K. Antony also met Gandhi.

Pranab Babu, is by far most eligible politician to become a President. However, coming from Indira Gandhi kripaposhita nataka mandali where corruption was patronised, one can't rule out the allegation of corruption against him.
I have a strong feeling that Mamata and Mulayam want Pranab Babu to become PM. Mamata can emotionally blackmail him to grant more aid to Bengal (which MMS is refusing)and Mulayam is an old friend of Pranab. Proposing MMS name for prez therefore is a a golden choori on MMS.
