Bogota, Jun 12 (IANS/EFE): A professional soccer player died and one of his teammates was wounded in an attack by gunmen in a town near the Caribbean city of Barranquilla, Colombian authorities said.
In the shooting Alex de Avila, defensive midfielder for the second-division club Autonomous University of the Caribbean, was killed while forward Herly Alcazar suffered gunshot wounds, according to a police report.
A man riding as a passenger on a motorcycle attacked the soccer players, who were talking at a bar in Puerto Colombia, a town near Barranquilla.
De Avila died on the spot, while Alcazar was admitted to a clinic.
Police gave no information on the possible motives of the attack, but local media said that the incident was apparently related to an argument between the soccer players and a man sitting at another table in the bar.
