Bantwal, Jun 12: A fox that accidentally fell into an open well was rescued by firefighters in Agrar on Monday June 11.
The locals were worried as the country chickens reared by them were missing since a few days. They suspected that a fox was preying on the chicken. An alert pet dog of Santappa Poojary on Sunday June 10 night, chased the fox that was trying to hunt a chicken. That is when the fox accidentally fell into an open well.
The dog continued to bark from above the open well, alerting the locals. The fox tried to find its way up, but in vain and remained helpless in the well.
The fire brigade arrived on the spot and tried to rescue the trapped fox in the well by lowering a rope. Firefighter Anand Naik courageously got down into the well, covered the head of the fox with a sack and wrapped it up with a rope and lifted it to safety. No sooner was the rope unfastened than the fox fled and disappeared into the woods.
Bantwal fire brigade chief V Sundar, firefighters M Ratnakar, Rajesh J, Satish Shenoy, Prasad, Sudhir B S and locals were involved in this rescue operation.
