Mangalore: Vikas PU College Inaugurated, Students Advised to Imbibe Values

Mangalore, Jun 11: The inaugural ceremony of Vikas Pre-University College was held at Town Hall here on Monday June 11.
Dr M Shantharam Shetty, vice-chancellor, Nitte University inaugurated by lighting the lamp.
Addressing the gathering he said that the region has made a mark in the field of banking and education sectors. With the emergence of Vikas PU College, he wished that Mangalore would become the Boston (in US) of India.
He further said that the two-year period of PU education is very important in every student's life. He wished that education be accessible to every section of the society and that ethical values be imbibed by the students.
He also stressed on the need to project land and water as sacred through education to inculcate respect for the environment among the younger generation and thereby minimise its pollution. He called upon the students to respect teachers and elders and said that education means thinking beyond self.
Krishna J Palemar, former minister and MLA, presiding over the programme said that Vikas PU College has been started with the aim of providing better and quality education to the students.
Gopal Hosur, IGP (Intelligence), Bangalore, the chief guest, said that parents by being too possesive of the children sometimes create stress on their young minds. "Education aim to imbibe self-confidence in students. Obtaining good marks in exams is not the sole purpose of education, rather, pious values should be inculcated through education," he said.
Kaverappa, former vice-chancellor of Mangalore University and one of the guests of honour, said that in India just 12 percent of the students are enrolled in higher education, as against the world average 25 percent. "Hence, the statistics in India is very poor, and more number of educational institutions should compensate for the deficiency," he said.
Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman, Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation said that there is a dearth of teachers in the field, and hence students opting for the teaching profession should be supported.
Usha Prabha N Nayak, secretary, Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation said that nothing can replace hard work in the life of students.
M Jagannath Kamath, chartered accountant and vice-chairman, ICAI, Mangalore chapter, Prasanna Kumar, member, advisory committee, Vikas PU College, Dr K Rajendra, principal, Vikas P U College and Parthasarathi, CEO were also present. The stage programme was followed by fusion music by internationally renowned ‘Shiva’.
