Alert Women Pilots Save over 48 Lives Aboard Air India Plane

Guwahati, Jun 10 (IANS): The presence of mind of two women pilots saved the lives of 48 passengers and the crew aboard a Guwahati-bound Air India plane Sunday after it was noticed that a front wheel of the aircraft missing as it came in to land here.

"During a pre-landing check, the ATC discovered that one of the two front wheels were missing. The pilots were immediately informed and an emergency was declared at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport," a source in the Airports Authority of India (AAI) here told IANS.

The ATR flight from Silchar was being flown by Urmila Yadav and co-pilot Yashu.
They kept the aircraft circling for more than two hours over the  airport to burn off the fuel while preparations were being made for an emergency landing, the source said.

"In such a situation, the remaining fuel is always burnt off to lighten the aircraft and prevent a fatal accident while landing.

"It was a good decision to burn the highly inflammable fuel as it sometimes lead to fatal accidents during emergency landings, the source said.

Although panic gripped passengers after they came to know about the snag, the plane landed safely and the passengers and crew were evacuated and were safe, an AAI official said.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi congratulated the pilots over the phone for their courage in landing the and saving precious lives.

The aircraft lost its front wheel during take off, a statement issued from the Chief Minister's Office here said.

My hats of to Pilot Urmila Yadhav and co-pilot Yashu for saving the lives of 48 on board of AIR INDIA plane. Both of them used their presence of mind and saved all of them and also the aircraft. civil Aviation authorities should make a thorough inquiry and punish the guilty. I feel because of instability in the management and strikes the air crafts are not thoroughly inspected.

What a shocking news ? one of the tyre missing while take off???
The brave IA Pilots saved 48 lives- Air india saved 46x75 lacks Rupees for the claims the Aircraft of billion Rupees. The woman piolets are heroine of the year and they should be awarded with a life time achievement of bravey and at least 75 lack Rupees each as a reward for their bravery and timely adoption of safety landing. If they are panic they shold have fainted in the cock-pit and all 48 the plain would have lost. So the Minister should recommond a bravery award and timely gift to those AI staff.

Why to highlight it is a woman pilots? Both men and women pilots are getting same training and skills. If women pilot has landed the plane successfuly then the man pilot also do landing the that situation. When a women can be President of a country, why not a pilot? There is only one chromosome difference between the gender. Other then that I do not see much a difference. One would think all pilots would be trained to handle emrgencies like this situations. Air India need the maintenence must be improved a lot. Phase out old aircraft.

BRAVO..Indian Women Pilots.Very brave women who showed calmness when they were informed by Air Traffic Controller about missing front wheel.Passengers didn't know what was happening around till plane landed safely.
We have not forgotten Air India Express crash at Mangalore Airport due to Russian Pilot's error who was sleeping and his snoring was recorded in Voice Recorder box. This is the difference between foreign Pilots and Indian Pilots.Let me congratulate our daring Pilot Urmila and co-Pilot Yashu.

ANOTHER HIDE AND SEEK INCIDENT BY AI FLIGHT. WHAT'S GOING ON IN INDIA. THANK GOD ALL ARE SAFE THIS TIME.

AS I SAID EARLIER THIS AI FLIGHT SHOULD BAN FOR PERMANENTLY. THIS WILL TAKE POOR PEOPLE LIVES.

OUR CORRUPT AJITH WAS STILL BUSY IN CORRUPTION. WRONG CANDIDATE IN AVIATION MINISTER POST.

WHY CAN'T HE TAKE ACTION AGAINST ALL FLIGHT AUTHORITIES. LET THEM RAID AND CHECK EVERYTHING.

IF IT CONTINUES LIKE THIS, THEN ONE DAY WILL COME EVERYONE HAS TO USE SHIP INSTEAD OF FLIGHTS. CENTRAL GOVT TEAM IS STILL IN COMA.IT IS REALLY BAD.

Congrats Ms. Urmila Yadav and Yashu ..
now the question is , how did they lose the front tyres during take off ? was it the maintenance crew error or the pilot error ?
better they sell these doomed airlines before it turns more and more fatal .

The skill and courage of the two pilots is highly commendable, so is the work of the ATC.

As for Air India, it's high time they closed down. An aircraft just doesn't "lose" a wheel I cannot imagine how.

Indian female pilots showed their guts and courage not lesser than male pilots.Astonishing factor is how the front wheel severed during take off?No one noticed this serious snag in take off? What is ATC doing?Very interesting indeed. Is this result of AIR INDIA PILOTS strike?Something serious and inclusive investigation required from Civil Aviation ministry.Hats off to two Women pilots who made mission impossible to Mission possible.Anyway Air India Maintenance departments/Engineers owes costly answer...
