Body of Girl who Drowned at Ullal Washes Ashore at Bhatkal

Bhatkal, Jun 10: The body of a girl who drowned at Ullal beach near Mangalore last week was recovered at Shirali Alvekodi beach in Bhatkal here on Sunday June 10.
The deceased has been identifed as 17-year-old Raunak Jahan.

On Sunday June 3, Raunak along with her cousin Uzma (15) were playing in the water when both were washed away by the strong waves. Uzma was saved by the rescue team while Raunak was feared drowned after rescue afforts failed to locate her.
Both of them hail from Mudigere in Chikmagalur district. They had visited Ullal beach for a picnic with family.
Raunak had completed her second PUC from Alva's College, Moodbidri with distinction in the science stream. She had also answered her CET and had planned to pursue PhD later on.
Daughter of Abdul Shukar, Raunak was among three children. Her sister, who is married, and brother are twins.
Uzma has just finished her 10th standard.
Raunak's body was spotted eight days after the incident by social worker Nisaar Ruknaddin who immediately informed the police.
By 1 pm, the body was identified by Raunak's family member.
Bhatkal town police have registered a case in this regard.
