Washington, Jun 9 (IANS): US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Friday discussed situation in Syria with UN-Arab League joint special envoy Kofi Annan during a meet held in Washington.
"Syria is a real, real challenge," Xinhua quoted Annan as telling reporters, alongside Clinton, before holding their meeting at the US State Department.
The special envoy, who authored the six-point peace plan aimed at ending the 15-month-long violence in Syria, said that the discussion is to explore how to put additional pressure "on the government, on the parties" to implement the plan.
Citing Thursday's "serious discussion" at the UN, Annan said, "Everyone is looking for a solution."
"Is the problem the plan or the problem is implementation? If it's implementation, how do we get action on that? And if it's the plan, what other options do we have?," he said.
"So all these questions are now being discussed, and we are also exploring how we can work with other governments in the region and around the world to achieve our goals," Annan added.
On Thursday, Annan told the UN General Assembly that his peace plan "is not being implemented", and the situation in Syria is deteriorating.
