Mangalore, Jun 7: Canara High School-CBSE observed World Environment Day on Tuesday June 5. This was meaningfully celebrated by adding potted plants to the school garden and also encouraging students to participate in drawing and poster making competitions with environment related topics.
Students of classes III to V celebrated the day in an interesting way. The programme started with a prayer song. Akshatha Baliga, teacher briefed the students on the importance of the day. Principal Joy J Rai, shared her thoughts with the children mentioned that the idea of protecting our environment should begin from home. Ramesh Kedilaya the school advisor encouraged students to be environment friendly.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the drawing competition. Archana Prabhu, staff co-coordinator classes I to III, compered the programme.
Classes VI to VIII observed the day in a unique way. A spring cleaning of the school surroundings was taken up by the scouts and guides troup. Vaishnavi Shetty of class VIII spoke on the importance of the day. Principal Joy Rai enlightened the students about the dangers of the depleting the resources through a power point presentation and urged students to save Mother Nature in their own way. Honorary correspondent Kochikar Sudhakar Pai, during the interactive session asked the students the causes of environmental distress and the suggestions for protecting it. He was impressed with the answers given out by students which clearly showed that they were keen in conserving the environment.
Prize winners of poster making and slogan writing competition were awarded with certificates and gift vouchers. The principal also taught the students a song on environment protection.
The programme ended up with a vote of thanks.
