Moscow, May 29 (IANS): A district administration official in Russia's North Caucasus region was shot at several times by unknown gunmen by he survived the assassination attempt, RIA Novosti reported.
The gunmen opened fire at the car of Khasan Sijajev, head of Baksan district of the Kabardino-Balkaria republic, an investigative committee official said.
The official received gun-shot wounds to the abdomen and was sent to hospital. His life was out of danger, hospital officials said.
Since the beginning of 2012, a total of 55 gang members have been arrested and 34 militants have been eliminated in Kabardino-Balkaria.
