Mangalore, May 24: Former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty came down heavily on BJP leaders for spending huge amount of money on Yuva Jagruthi Samavesha and graded it as a ‘flop show’ as the convention witnessed only 30, 000 participants as against the expectation of 70, 000 participants from 30 districts.

He was speaking to reporters at district congress office here on Wednesday May 23. He rued that after BJP came to power, ministers involved in scams have increased. When 123 taluks are suffering from drought in the state, the Yuva Jagruthi Samavesha was not needed, he added.

He said there were less number of participants from DK district in the convention. Though BJP in its election manifesto stated allowance for unemployed youth, 15 lac houses in 5 years were also promised without being materialized. The former MLA said in previous GIM (Global Investors’ meet), 289 projects were earmarked, of which only 38 have been half completed.

He also said instead of GIM, SEZ should have not been denotified by the state government. There were more than 80% of the farmers ready to give their lands thereby more job opportunities would have incurred in the region. He termed the decision of state government of denotifying the land as a wrong step.

When reporters said there were many families displaced in the course of project completion in second phase of land acquisition, he said more industries are yet to come.
