Udupi, May 21: Unidentified persons who claimed to be police personnel robbed a car driver on Saturday May 19.
Narayana Kini (52), a resident of Donderangady of Kakkuje village, Karkala, was driving his car near Manipal Industrial Area on Saturday morning. Two unidentified persons who came in a white-colored Maruthi car stopped Kini and said they were police personnel. While ‘scrutinizing’ the car’s documents, they allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from Kini and took possession of his mobile phone, ATM card, driving license, ID card, and the car’s documents.
Later, the men in the guise of police, asked Kini to sit in their car to be driven to Manipal police station. However, he was taken to an unknown spot and they demanded Rs 2 lac from him. When Kini said he would give the money by evening, he was released. As per the complaint registered, Kini was waiting for the accused near Annapoorna Hotel in Manipal but they did not turn up. A case is registered at Manipal police station.
