Beltangady, May 13: The town police arrested two youngsters who were accused of murdering a wealthy toddy shopkeeper Sasindra, at Boliyaru, near here, on Sunday May 13. Fifty-two-year-old Sasindra was slain on Monday May 7.
The arrested has been identified as 24-year-old Harish Poojary Yane Harischandra, son of Dharnappa Poojary, residing in Niddle gram panchayat, near here, and 25-year-old Raghuchandra, residing in Niddle gram panchayat. The police recovered a knife with a wooden handle, the purse that belonged to Sasindra, Rs 3,000 in cash, and a key. The police also seized a motor cycle which was parked in the household of Raghuchandra, which was used to commit the heinous crime.
The police sources informed that the enmity between Sasindra and Harischandra over the sale of toddy and liquor culminated in the killing of Sasindra by the accused.
Circle inspector Bhaskar Rai, town sub-inspector Yogish Kumar, Punjalkatte sub-inspector Madhav Koodlu, Venoor sub-inspector Umesh Uppalike, head constable Kushalappa, police personnel Dayanand, Devappa, Ashok and Paulose C J, police personnels Sundar Shetty, Praveen, Sasidar, Mahesh, Venkatesh, Naveen, Krishna and Ganesh, jeep drivers B N Budki, Kanakaraj, Asif, and Dinesh were involved in this operation.
Dakshina Kannada SP Abhishek Goel announced cash awards to the police team involved in getting a breakthrough in this case.
