Panaji, May 8: Congress party in Goa will invite names of the aspirants for the forthcoming Cortalim by polls in the state, which is scheduled on June 2, said a senior official.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Subhash Shirodkar said that the state unit will appeal the aspirants to apply with their profiles, if they are contesting for the tickets for Cortalim by poll.
“The names would be collected and sent to high command for final decision,” said Shirodkar. Congress party had lost Cortalim constituency in last state legislative assembly polls. Matanhy Saldanha, a former tourism minister, who had won on BJP ticket, died soon after elections, necessitating polls there.
Congress Goa observer Jagmit Singh Brar is expected to arrive because of this development in Goa. But Shirodkar said that he has no intimation about any such visit by Brar. Cortalim seat is crucial for congress party which was left with the single digit number during March 3 Goa elections. Sources claim that BJP has tipped off Saldanha’s wife, Alina to be their candidate for Cortalim poll.
