Puttur, May 7: Entrepreneur and community leader Haji Umar Shafi (84), a resident of Kajral, Manjalpadu of Puttur passed away in his residence here on Sunday May 6.
Owner of Shafi Transport and a popular businessman of this region, Umar Shafi was suffering from ill health for the last few months. He was an active participant in all spiritual, social and educational developments for as many as 30 years.
He was the president of Ansaruddin Jamath Committee in Puttur, president of Ansaruddin Yatim Khana (orphanage), Ansaruddin Educational Trust, Kallega Mosque committee president, and treasurer of District Muslim Sumyuktha Jamaat. He also rendered his service as treasurer of Seeruth committee.
Former chief minister Kumarswamy, state legislative council speaker B L Shankar, Puttur district Muslim jamayat president Haji S Ibrahim Kammadi, leaders like S P Jayaram Gowda, Yenepoya Mohammed Kunhi, Kavu Hemanath Shetty, Methbail Ustad, Sullia block Congress president M Venkappa Gowda, Ashwini Kumar Bantwal, and a large number of well-wishers visited his residence to pay their last respects.
The final rites were carried out in Khilariya mosque.
