Mangalore: Cargo Ship Catches Fire, No Casualties

Mangalore, May 6: A cargo ship which was sailing from Mumbai to Cochin, transporting perishable goods in air conditioned containers caught fire in mid-sea, five nautical miles from NMPT, on Saturday May 5 at around noon.

It is said that the ship was transporting food items. When the fire broke out in the ship, the crew members immediately informed the coast guard and the fire was extinguished. It is believed that fire was due to short circuit and smoke was seen initially. It has been reported that all the crew are safe.
 
When Daijiworld contacted coast guard commandant Rajendra Singh, he said that procedures of the investigation are on and more details are not available. Earlier, when the coast guard office was contacted at 0824-2405260 several times from 7 pm to 8 pm, the calls were not answered.
