Mangalore: Thieves Target ATM in Balmatta, Escape

Mangalore, May 6: An ATM in Balmatta was targetted by thieves during the intervening night between Saturday May 5 and Sunday May 6.
The thieves attempted to break into the Canara Bank ATM at the HP petrol bunk in Balmatta here.
The petrold bunk has two ATMs - of Canara Bank and Dhanalaxmi Bank. Of them, only the Canara Bank ATM was targetted while the other one was untouched.
The staff at the petrol bunk were present till around 11.30 pm on Saturday night, and the security guard till midnight. When the guard reported to duty at 6 am on Sunday, he found the ATM damaged.
The ATM box has been broken and its lid pulled open.
City crime branch inspector Venkatesh Prasanna arrived at the spot along with Kadri police.
Speaking to daijiworld, Prasanna said that the police have found a clue to the culprits, and that based on preliminary investigations, no money was stolen.
Srikantamurthy, AGM of Canara Bank (Collector's Gate branch) told Daijiworld that the management of ATM is the responsibility of Canara Bank Computer Services. "Their CCTV footage may throw some light on the matter," he said.
A complaint is yet to lodged.
