Bangalore, May 3: It was great humanity personified. A young couple who lost their only son in a tragic accident near Bangalore airport on the early hours of Wednesday May 2, donated his eyes when they heard their son could not be saved.
Inconsolable grief did not prevent the parents of Mohit Gowda, a six-year-old boy, from donating his eyes, in a moving display of human concern.
Rajarajeshwari residents Pradeep Kumar (41), a cable operator in city, his wife Reena (34), and Reena's sister Uma (37) were coming back from Bangalore International Airport after bidding goodbye to Pradeep Kumar's parents who were travelling to USA to see their another son there.
As it was 5 in the morning, visibility was also low, and moreover, the driver of the cab they hired, Sunil Kumar (22) was driving all through the night. He lost control over the vehicle and hit the divider near Hosur flyover. 6-year-old Mohit Gowda who was thrown out of the car suffered injury on his chest, and all others including the driver too suffered serious injuries.
Though Mohit was taken to Columbia hospital, doctors could not save him.
On learning the shocking news of their only son's death, the couple made a bold decision despite their pain and requested the doctors to donate his eyes so that some unfortunate kid could see the world through Mohit's eyes.
Pradeep's parents, on learning the news of the accident, rushed back from the Airport cancelling the US trip and attended the cremation of their grandson.
