Beijing, May 1 (IANS): Heavy rains and hailstorms have affected over 750,000 people in a central Chinese province, officials said Tuesday.
Rain has battered Hunan province since April 28, affecting thousands of people in Yueyang, Yiyang, Zhangjiajie and Yongzhou regions, Xinhua reported citing the department of civil affairs.
Rainfall has also triggered landslides and floods. Around 47,500 residents were evacuated after 15,000 houses were damaged in the extreme weather.
Around 32,600 hectares of farmland have also suffered damage, causing losses up to $74 million.
