Kannada Sahitya Parishat Elections - It's Kalkura for DK, Adiga for Udupi

Mangalore/Udupi, Apr 29: Pradeep Kumar Kalkura has won the election for the district Kannada Sahitya Parishat held here on Sunday April 29.
Kalkura who secured a total of 464 votes, defeated M Sarvottam Anchan who got 358 votes. Harish Bantwal was in the third position with 149 votes. Three votes were rejected.

In Mangalore taluk, Sarvottam Anchan secured 272 votes as against Kalkura's 192 votes, while in all other taluks - Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia and Beltangady - Kalkura sailed past Anchan. In these taluks, Kalkura won 94, 68, 12, and 98 votes respectively, as against Shetty's 27, 34, 12, 8, and 17.
In Udupi, Neelavara Surendra Adiga defeated Vikramarjuna Hegde by a small margin of three votes at the district Kannada Sahitya Parishat elections held here on Sunday April 29.
Adiga won 298 votes as against 295 won by Hegde.
In Kundapur Adiga secured 87 votes, and in Udupi 111 votes, while Hegde garnered 113 votes in Kundapur and 82 in Udupi. Three votes were rejected.
Speaking after winning the election, Adiga said that he aims to increase literary activities in schools and bring about innovative schemes, apart from creating awareness about literary men and women in history, giving a boost to gamaka literature, holding meetings with members every three months, strengthening the Parishat at village and taluk levels, bringing deserving budding writers to the mainstream and so on.
Late last month, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Harish Bantwal and Sarvottam Anchan had filed their nominations in Dakshina Kannada and Neelavara Surendra Adiga, T Vikramarjuna Hegde in Udupi. In all, there were 1,022 voters in Udupi and 1,932 in DK.
