New Delhi, Apr 28 (IANS): The Congress leadership is considering some senior leaders and retired officials for appointment as governors in view of Raj Bhavan vacancies in some states, party sources said Saturday.
The sources said former railway minister C.K. Jaffar Sharief, former MP R.K. Dhawan, former Madhya Pradesh speaker Srinivas Tiwari and former Special Protection Group chief B.V. Wanchoo are among those who have been considered by the party for gubernatorial assignments.
There are vacancies in Rajasthan, Punjab and Goa where governors of neighbouring states are holding charge. Governors in some other states are also completing their terms.
Party sources said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, party president Sonia Gandhi and senior party leaders met Friday and are learnt to have discussed appointments of governors.
