Beltangady, Apr 23: In a tragic incident, two young boys drowned in Phalguni river at Nelligudde, Venoor here on Monday April 23.

The deceased are Mohammed Rizwan (13) and his relative Mohammed Anas (7). The two had come to visit their grandmother's house.

Rizwan, son of Umar Sharif and Nafisa, residents of Adarshnagar, Kinnikambala in Kaikamba, was a student of 7th standard. He was third son among the couple's four sons and two daughters. Mohammed Anas, son of U R Sharif Darimi and Rehana, residents of Madavu, Keyoor village in Puttur, was studying in the 2nd standard. The couple have another son.

On Monday, the two boys along with Hasan Razik, younger brother of Rizwan, and Mohammed Sarfaraz, brother of Anas, went into the river to play.

It is said that Anas and Rizwan went deeper into the water and were pulled in. Sarfaraz and Hasan ran to call for help, but by the time the locals gathered it was too late.

The bodies were retrieved later.

Venoor police have registered a case.
