Bangalore, Apr 23: Welfare Party of India (WPI), which was launched in seven States last year, will officially start its unit in Karnataka on Tuesday.
Announcing the official launch at a press conference on Monday, National General Secretary of WPI S Q R Ilyas said the formation of the party was aimed at starting a movement for reforming Indian Politics.
''The party is not for short term political gains but will embark on a long term mission to evolve an alternative political culture in the country,” he said.
Founders of the party, who are from varied backgrounds, communities, classes and social groups, have started mass-contact programmes to flawless character.
''Those who prove their commitment to the values and vision of the party through word and deed will be admitted as members,” he said.
The party will launch massive public campaigns and take up awareness programmes to create socio-political public consciousness, WPI’s National President Mujtaba Farooque said.
The aim was to try and inculcate self esteem, self confidence and the ambition and courage to fight oppression in common man.
