Mangalore: Landslip at Thokkotu - Trapped Man Finally Rescued

Mangalore, Apr 23: Mendel Pinto, who was trapped following the landslip at a construction site at Thokkottu near here on Sunday April 22, was finally rescued after putting in hours of efforts.
The rescue operation went on through most of the night, and by the time he was pulled out, it was around 3.30 - 4 am.
It is said that Mendel's legs were stuck and the rescuers had to carefully dig out the mud layer by layer.
Mendel has been shifted to a hospital in the city.
Altogether, four people were trapped and injured in the incident. While three were rescued soon, Mendel could not be pulled out easily.

Mangalore, Apr 22: Four people were injured in a landslip that occured at a construction site at Thokkottu near here on the night of Sunday April 22.
Work on underground construction was going on at the site. At around 8.45 pm, it began raining, and the huge pile of mud near the compound wall loosened and gave way, collapsing underground.
The layers of mud collapsed on the quarters occupied by four labourers near the site, and all of them were buried underneath. The persons have been identified as Kathik D'Souza, Babu Biswas, Mohammed Riyaz and Mendel Pinto, all from Kolkata.
Fire service and rescue teams were rushed to the spot. Ullal police also arrived.
Of the four, three were rescued and shifted to a hospital in the city. They sustained minor injuries.
Mendel Pinto is still trapped under the mud and efforts are on to rescue him. He is said to have suffered grave injuries.
