Bangalore: 'Mandyada Gandu' Ambarish Turns 60, Mega Bash Planned

Bangalore, Apr 22: Veteran Kannada film actor M H Ambareesh, widely popular as ''Mandyada Gandu,” will be turning 60 and the entire Kannada film industry has planned a mega birthday celebratory bash for three days from May 27.

Ambarish, who is also known in the film industry and popular among his fans as ''rebel star,” had been active in the Kannada film industry for four decades.

Ambarish was born on May 29, 1952 in Maddur taluk in Mandya district.

He was the 6th of 7 children and the youngest among the brothers. His birth name was Amarnath.

Ambarish's childhood was very much under his famous, musician and maternal grandfather's shadow.

The Kannada film industry has decided to hold a series of programmes to mark the 60th birthday of the film star for three days from May 27 at the Bangalore Place Grounds.

With the three-day felicitation extravaganza, in which all sections of the entire Kannada film industry would be involved, the Kannada film industry would virtually come to a standstill.

Ambarish, who started his political career through the undivided Janata Dal and later joined the Congress party, had won as Lok Sabha member from Mandya from both parties. He was member of the 12th, 13th and 14th Lok Sabha.

However, Ambarish became an Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting in the 14th Lok Sabha under the Congress rule and resigned over the Cauvery issue.

Giving details about the series of celebrations planned to mark Ambarish’s 60th birthday, senior Kannada film director S Narayan said personalities from Hindi, Telugi, Tamil and Malayalam film industries would participate in the programme.

Country’s noted film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Hassan, Rajanikanth, Mohanlal, Mamootti, Shatrughan Sinha, Chiranjeevi would descend to the City and wish the “Rebel Star.”

He had acted in over 200 films, including Puttanna Kanagal movies like Paduvaralli Pandavaru, Shuba Mangala and Ranganayaki.

The actor had married Kannada film actress Sumalatha, who discontinued her film career after marriage.
