Bangalore, Apr 22: Through an order issued on Thursday April 19, Karnataka High Court held as illegal the formation of the new managing committee of Kollur Goddess Mookambika Temple in Kundapur taluk, Udupi district.
It may be recalled that in the past too, the High Court had dissolved the managing committee formed by the government, after finding truth in the arguments placed before it by some petitioners, alleging irregularities.
The state government had, on March 17 this year, issued an order for the formation of the new temple managing committee headed by Krishnaprasad Agyantaya. The petitioners including Sachchidananda Shetty from Kollur had filed petition against this order. The main issue on which the petitioners based their arguments was that code conduct relating to Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha bypoll was in force when the impugned order was issued. They had requested the High Court to hold the committee formation as illegal.
The High Court bench presided by Justice Ajit Gunjal, held that the formation of the committee was illegal. It has ordered the government to seek applications from aspirants again and form the committee afresh.
