Udupi, Apr 19: Radha Das, president of Kundapur Taluk Mahila Mandals Union, has filed a complaint in the local court, accusing Kundapur circle inspector of police, Madan Gaonkar, and sub-inspector of Kundapur police station, Johnson Kiran D’Souza, of high-handed behaviour and being hand in glove with the criminals.
Radha says that Santosh Devadiga from Ugranimane, Sunil from Janata Colony, and Sumant from Onimane had brutally attacked her near Lord Sooryanarayana Temple in Kumbhashi with the specific purpose of eliminating her. She has accused Ramakrishna Herle of planning this attack and encouraging the attackers.
“I fell unconscious because of this attack. I got myself admitted into Kundapur government hospital later, and informed the police through the attending doctor about the attack. The policemen failed to initiate any action. On April 2, I visited the police station, where the sub-inspector and circle inspector named above castigated me and threatened to register a complaint against me instead of the attackers. They also kept me in confinement till 10 pm that day. The policemen came to talk to me only after some leaders of the Mahila Mandals Union brought pressure on them. Then the policemen forcibly obtained my signature on a statement prepared by them. Instead of registering first information report on the basis of the statement I had given, they prepared it by twisting the facts to suit their convenience,” she claimed in her complaint.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday relating to the Incident, Radha Das said that the people fail to get justice at Kundapur police station, and accused the policemen of protecting the attackers, murderers and thieves after collecting money from them.
JCI child and women department director, Manjula V Prasad, Ramadevi, president of Kukkikatte Mahila Mandal, Kundapur, and Sumati Akkamma were present at the press conference.
