Puttur, Apr 17: Unidentified thieves made use of the opportunity provided by the absence of a family living at Kabadaka in the taluk, and stole cash and valuables belonging to it. As a result, the family lost Rs 2.70 lac including gold and silver ornaments besides cash.
Balakrishna Naik, who lives in a rented house in Mura in Kabaka owned by Ummer Haji, was on a visit to Bhadravati along with other family members, since April 12. On his return on Sunday April 15 night, he found that thieves had broken open the rear door of the house, and had taken away silver and gold ornaments besides Rs 12,000 in cash, totaling Rs 2.70 lac.
The house in question is surrounded by various houses but none of the neighbours were alerted by the presence of thieves. It is clear that someone who knew that the family would be absent for three days, made use of the opportunity. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs were summoned for help in investigation.
A case was registered in this respect at the town police station here. While the citizens as well as police personnel know that someone has been keeping an eye on people leaving the town to other places with entire families, and stealing things from their homes at night, they do not as yet have any clue about their identities.
