Mangalore: First-ever International T20 Cricket Match in City

Mangalore, Apr 14: Here's some good news for cricket fans in the city. Mangalore will witness the first-ever T20 international cricket match at the NMPT cricket stadium on April 29, with Zimbabwe Africans and Karnataka Indians vying for the ‘Heath Streak – Corporation Bank – Mohtisham T20 Cricket Cup'.
This was announced by Joseph Rego, head, Heath Streak Foundation at a press conference held at Gateway Hotel here on Saturday April 14.
Former captain of Zimbabwe cricket team Heath Streak will tour Mangalore with his boys Grant Flower, Raymond Price, Brendon Taylor, Douglas Merrilier, Charles Coventry, Terence Duffin, Dirk Viljoen, Alistair Campbell, Mpumelelo Mbangwa and Elton Chigumbura. Heath Streak will come down to Mangalore to launch his charity trust Heath Streak Foundation in support of children's education and healthcare for the poor and needy children suffering from heart disorders.
"The Karnataka Indians are a talented team of young cricketers selected by the DKCA, Mangalore," Rego said, and added that within a week's time, probably on Wednesday, names of the players will be announced.
He further said that the game will be played according to the rules of international cricket, and the stadium atmosphere will be electrifying and carnival-like with DJ music, folk dancers and live entertainment to enthrall the spectators.
The T20 match has been organized with objectives of providing the local talents an opportunity of a lifetime to play against an international team, and focusing on the urgent need for a cricket stadium which the city deserves, he said.
