Mangalore, Apr 10: The state government's recent proposal to hike the fees of professional courses met staunch opposition from members of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarti Parishad (ABVP) here on Tuesday April 10.
The ABVP members formed a human chain at Basaweshwara circle here and called for a roll-back of the hike.
The protestors alleged that private colleges have a hand in bringing about the move, by putting pressure on the government and using influence. They said the government had failed to take into consideration the plight of the students from backward communities, and was solely interested in helping the colleges grow richer.
They also demanded cancellation of COMED-K and pressed for a direct couselling by the government.
ABVP city secretary Chinmay Rai, organizing secretary Vinay Horatti and otherswere present.
