Panaji: Sesa Goa Issued Notices for Violating Norms

Panaji, Apr 10 (IANS): The Panaji bench of the Bombay High Court Monday issued notice to top officials of Vedanta Resources-owned Sesa Goa, Goa's biggest mining company, for alleged violation of ore transportation norms.

The notice was issued by Justice F.M. Reis in response to a petition filed by green activist Ramesh Gauns, who claimed that Sesa Goa had violated the court-ordered norms set by the directorate of transport for ore transportation a couple of years ago.

As per the notice, Sesa Goa managing director and chief operating office P.K. Mukherjee and Pramod Unde have been asked to respond to the violations as alleged by Gauns in his petition.

"The notices were issued today. I have been petitioning various government agencies in view of the 'continuous and persistent violations' carried out by the company for months, but there was no response from any state agency," Gauns told IANS.

Sesa Goa spokespersons were not available for comment.
