Udupi, Apr 9: A migrant labourer was found brutally murdered in his house at Katte Vadiraj Acharya Road, here on Sunday April 8 night.
The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Basavantappa, a migrant labourer from Badami.
Udupi town police told Daijiworld that the body was discovered by Shaukat Ali, a fleet owner who had come visiting his old house in the neighbourhood. Shaukat had last seen Basavantappa alive with two others in his house last night, but this morning when he passed by the house he found the door open. He went inside and found blood stains on the floor, and in another room found Basavantappa lying dead. Shaukat immediately informed the police.
Sources said that he was allegedly murdered by his roommate. In a state of drunkenness, Basavantappa is said to have begun an argument with him, following which his roommate hit him hard with a sharp weapon.
Circle inspector Girish is investigating the case. The roommate is absconding.
