Sullia, Apr 9: A person named Dhananjaya (42), from Nintikal Pambettady Karikkala in the taluk, who has been accused of abducting a minor girl belonging to a different caste, and raping her after confining her to a hotel room, was arrested by the Subrahmanya police on Sunday April 8. The accused is married, and has two children.
In a complaint filed with the police, father of the girl in question, Abbas, had charged Dhananjaya of abducting his daughter when she was proceeding to school on Saturday and keeping her in illegal confinement in a lodge in Kulkunda Subrahmanya owned by one of his acquaintances. He said that his daughter, in a call made earlier, had informed him that she would not return home as she had to stay at night at school on account of a programme there. Later, a person, who identified himself as the headmaster of the school, had told him that his daughter was required to stay for the night at the school.
Suspecting foul play, the father of the girl filed police complaint with the police on Sunday morning. On the basis of mobile number provided by him, the police tracked Dhananjaya and questioned him.
Reportedly, Dhananjaya admitted that he indeed had accompanied the girl. He claimed that he had dropped her off at the local bus stand, and sent her home by a bus.
The accused was produced in the court on Sunday evening, whereupon he was remanded to judicial custody. The police of Subrahmanya are investigating the case further.
