Udupi, Apr 9: Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji of Puttige Mutt, who participated in the food festival organized at Malpe beach on Sunday April 8, wished that vegetarian food festivals will pave way for revolution of food habits, and will bring back vegetarian foods to the forefront. He said that the Brahmins have come to be widely known for their appetite for tasty food and also for being excellent cooks.
Malpe beach, which routinely witnesses fish stocks in abundance, had worn an altogether different look on Sunday. Pure vegetarian dishes ruled the roost here on Sunday, on account of Beach Food Festival organized by the district unit of Yuva Brahmana Parishat on the occasion of its silver jubilee year.
The gathering was quite huge, and exceeded expectations of the organizers. Traditional food items of coastal Karnataka like Ghee Dosa, Patrode, Pongal, Seera, Sevige Koorma, Avalakki Pulao, Gunda, Menaskai, Moode Kodkena, Biscuit Rotti, Pundigatti, Bisibele Bhath, Sukrunde, Halubai, Dry Jamun, Jackfruit Appa, Nipppattu, Podi and many other items vied with one another in attracting the attention of visitors, who ate the items of their choice to their hearts content.
Rasayana made of mango and muskmelon, juice made of sesame seeds, Payasam made from green gram dal, and carrot Kheer provided succor to the people harassed by heat wave.
Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji of Shirur Mutt noted that the taste of food brand, ‘Udupi’ has become famous all over the universe because of the grace of Lord Srikrishna and Mukhyaprana. MLA, K Raghupati Bhat, entrepreneur, Pramod Madhwaraj, municipal president, Kiran Kumar, Karnataka Bank general manager, M V C S Karanth, president of Udupi Taluk Brahmana Mahasabha, Dr Ravichandra Uchchila, district Builders Association president, jerry Vincent Dias, president of Fisheries Federation, Yashpal Suvarna, and many other dignitaries participated.
On this occasion, achievers like police sub-inspector, K Krishna Samaga, photographers, Astro Mohan and Janardhan Kodavoor, and artiste, Purushottam Adve, were honoured.
President of Silver Jubilee Celebrations Committee, K Ranjan Kalkura, welcomed. Bhaskar Rao kediyoor presented the programme, Secretary, Vijayaraghava Rao proposed vote of thanks.
