Kasargod, Apr 4: The law and order situation in the district was once again on shaky footing as some miscreants tried to desecrate a temple in the town. Protests were underway at Kanhangad, near here, on the basis of a call given by the Sangh Parivar. Shops were forcibly closed. The road blockade that was laid near Kotachery traffic circle hindered traffic for many hours. General life was thrown out of gear due to the lightning protest. The police force has been deployed in communally-sensitive areas to avoid communal flare-ups. Some miscreants pelted stones at private buses that were plying en route Kasargod–Kambar on the night of Monday April 2 and this resulted in broken windshields. The bus services en route were stalled by bus owners to condemn the attack.
A tense situation prevailed soon after the failed attempt to desecrate Mallikarjun temple early on Monday morning, by dumping a bull’s skull in the periphery of the temple. The shopkeepers drew shutters and bus services came to a standstill. The passengers were affected due to the stalled public transport. A group of men attacked a motorcyclist at a traffic junction and the police had to resort to baton charging to disperse the mob.
Some miscreants damaged the windowsills and doors of the home of Shafi, residing at Bangaragudde, here. The car of Abdulla, a trader residing at Bangaragudde, which was parked in front of Tekkil Complex, K P R Rao Road, was damaged by some miscreants. The police resorted to baton charging to disperse mobsters who also pelted stones on shops and automobile showrooms across the city.
Security has been beefed up across the district to thwart any instances of communal flare-ups.
