Mangalore/Udupi, Apr 3: The summer rains have finally given some indication of relief from the unbearable heat in the coastal region. Mangalore and Udupi cities were not so lucky, but some interior parts of both districts experienced rains. Sullia, Venur, Beltangady, Puttur, Bellare received about an hour-long, but not heavy rain.
In Udupi district, Karkala experienced moderate rain with lightning and thunder. Reports from Karkala confirmed that about two hours of non-stop rain gave a little relief to the people, but electricity was cut as soon as thunder started. Power was restored at around 7 pm.
Ajekar in Karkala experienced hailstorm like the previous year. People were seen rushing inside the houses as soon as the hail stones started pouring.
Some parts of Kundapur also experienced hailstorm. Brahmavar, Kokkarne, Petri, and other places received rains, but very little. Some parts of Kundapur boiled under severe heat due to the cloudy weather. Power cuts doubled their agony.
No loss to property or injury has been reported from any place.
In Mangalore city, the weather continued to be hot, except for a few drops of light drizzle that hardly made any difference. The cloudy weather evoked hopes of heavy showers, but that was not to be.
