Kasargod, Apr 2: The inaugural of Bhoodhan Yajna project to commemorate the 50th death anniversary of Guru Nityananda at Niityanand Yogashram, was held at Kondevoor, near here, on Sunday April 1.
Vedic rites and Bhoodhan Yajna was performed by Vedamurti Kamaladevi Prasad Asranna, chief priest of Durgaparameshwari temple, Mangalore, in the presence of Swami Yoganand Saraswati of Nityanand Yogashram.
District Commissioner (DC) V N Jitendran was the chief guest who distributed title deeds of housing sites donated by Nityanand Yogashram to the beneficiaries.
BJP local leader K Monappa Bhandary presided over the programme.
Vedamurti Kamaladevi Prasad Asranna, Nityanand Yogashram Mumbai committee honorary president Rohidas Bangera, president Dharmapal U Devadiga, Bangalore committee president K Narayan, Mumbai entrepreneur Balakrishna P Bhandary, K G Gundappa Rai, Shivanand Bekal, D S Suryanarayan, Vasant Pai Badiyadka, and Kumble Sundar Rao were the guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Jitendran said that charity lies in reaching out to the poor. “Poverty is a social issue which hinders decent living. It could be curbed through equality in society. Nityanand Yogashram is instilling self-confidence among the poorest of the poor to lead better lives,” he said DC Jitendran.
Kamaladevi Asranna, in his message, said that literacy can improve the life of the poor in the society by exploring their talent in sustaining a livelihood.
Swami Yoganand Saraswati urged the wealthy devotees to contribute to the less-fortunate to improve their standard of living through different social welfare programmes undertaken by Nityanand Yogashram, Kondevoor.
K P Arvind Mumbai, T Sundar, committee secretary Bhaskar Uppala, treasurer Sridar U, and hundreds of devotees were present on the occasion.
Dr Jayaprakash Tottetody welcomed the gathering. Banbrana Vishwanat Alva, Veerappa Bangera, Dr Pradeep Kumar, S Sadanand, Gopal Bangera, Mohandas Pai, Bhaskar Uduma, Babu K Bangera, B A Mohan, Hiriyanna K, Sundar Salian Mumbai, Umesh Manjeshwar, Anant Pai greeted the guests with flower bouquets.
Gangadhar Kondevoor compered the programme. Gopal Bandyottu proposed the vote of thanks.
