Mangalore, Apr 1: Three persons have been arrested in connection with the theft that took place at Sunkadakatte near here on March 27 at the house of Saroja.
The arrested are Chetan of Padu Peraru, Krishna Bilayi and Bachu Mandal, a native of Bengal. All the stolen valuables have been seized. They were produced before the media at a press meet here on Sunday April 1, convened by city police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh.
It may be recalled that the thieves had gained entry into Saroja's house in her absence and looted gold and other valuables worth Rs 10 lac. What made the case sensational, apart from the fact that it took place in broad daylight, was that the thieves first tied up Geeta, Saroja's niece, before ransacking the place.
Addressing reporters, Seemanth Kumar said, “This was a sensational case, and unprecendented as such an incident has never happened before. It took place in daylight in a residential area”.
He also congratulated the police personnel involved in the investigation on cracking the case. He also thanked Vishakapatnam police, Pandeshwar circle inspector Tilak Chandra, Bajpe SI Dinakar Shetty, SI Ananth Murudeshwar and his team and all others who were responsible for solving the case.
Chethan, the main accused, is a local against whom several cases have been lodged. His two accomplices are from West Bengal.
Saroja Salian handed over Rs 25,000 as a reward to Dinakar Shetty and his team and Rs 2,000 to the special branch constable.
