Kasargod, Mar 31: 'Global Earth Hour' will be held on Saturday March 31 from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm by switching off all lights as a symbolical protest against the ill effects of global warming and climate change this year. All major cities in the world would participate in this event.
The World Wide Fund for nature is the global organizer of this event. Earth Hour campaign was started in 2007 Opera house, Sydney Australia with the participation of many houses and shops. Last year the event was a grand success with the participation of 5251 cities from 135 countries this year organizers believe to surpass these numbers.
In India Earth Hour 2012 will be observed in big canvas with Sachin Tendulkar as national brand ambasador in three cities in Kerala including Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kasargod would take place in this event. In Kasargod, the event will be conducted by imsocio.com (a social networking site) in association with Rotary Club, Kasaragod Muncipality ANERT and EDAC Kerala.
The event will start in the evening with the environmental quiz at Big Bazar Kasargod followed by "Nadan Pattu" (folk song) by singer Subash Arukara. The event will officialy be launched by district collector V N Jithendran IAS by switching of electricity and switching on solar lantern.
