Udupi: Rave Party at Malpe St Mary's Island - Enquiry Begins

Udupi, Mar 28: The enquiry into the rave party at St Mary's Island, held in early February, began at Malpe here on Wednesday March 28 with a team arriving at the island.
Deputy commissioner Dr M T Reju, SP Borelingaiah, Mysore division regional commissioner M V Jayanthi and ADC Kumar arrived for an inspection of the island.
The DC showed a map of the island to Jayanthi and gave her details of the event. The team then did a spot inspection of the island.
Dr Reju further informed that self-help groups had joined hands in cleaning up the island after the international festival, to which SI Sathish added that the people who had participated in the event were aged less than 42.
Revenue official Puttaswamy was also present.
Later in the day, public will be asked to assemble at the DC office and share any information they have on the rave party. Enquiry will continue in Udupi on March 29.
The Spring Zouk international festival held in the first week of February had attracted a a number of foreigners, consequently leading to allegations of drug abuse, sex and other unwanted activities atthe island. The issue became a rage in the media and opposition parties left no stone unturned to accuse the BJP-led government of immorality in the name of tourism development. A probe was later ordered into the event.
