Udupi, Mar 27: “Books are the best friends. Reading habit is the most useful hobby. Read what you want, in any language, but read,” said Hemacharya, editor-in-chief of Daijiworld Weekly while inaugurating the Readers’ Club, a venture by the Department of English in Milagres College, Kallianpur, here, recently.
He also shared his experience as a student and as an employee at various places. He asserted that the reading habit that he cultivated ever since helped him in shaping his personality and today the same habit has given him the responsibility of editing Daijiworld Weekly.
Dr Gerald Pinto, Millagres College, Kallianpur presided over the function. Prof Vincent Alva, the convenor of IQAC and the man behind this venture welcomed the dignitaries.
Prof Cyril Mathias, HOD of English explained the importance of the club in the beginning. The Club is jointly managed by Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Department of English, Milagress College, Kalliapur.
When there is a hue and cry everywhere that the reading habit among the students is dying, the Department of English of Milagres College took a bold step of encouraging the students to love books among many other things.
